Bertha E. Plocher

Bertha Ellen Plocher, age 64 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born November 20, 1946, in Albia, IA, the daughter of Jess and Ellen (nee Devries) Hill. On October 04, 1969, she married Levan P. \"Van\" Plocher who survives in Highland, IL. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of US Naval Academy Parents Club; former Member of Highland Booster Club. Bertha was born at Albia, IA; grew up there and attended school at Albia, IA, graduated in 1964. She earned a degree @ Iowa Tech and started working at Northeast Missouri State Teacher\'s College in Kirksville, MO, where she met her husband. She moved to St. Louis, MO in 1968. She worked for Volkswagen Insurance; Jakes Evans Manufacturing; AJF; Highland Supply and Hager Companies for 12 years when she retired in October 2009. She and her husband traveled and went camping on weekends. She loved flowers in the house and outdoors She liked knitting, crocheting and tatting. She enjoyed her dog, Brandy.As a youth, she was Ottumwa Rodeo Queen in the mid 1960\'s; she barrel raced and showed Western Pleasure Horses. She was dedicated to her family. She volunteered at Williamson County Child Advocacy Center in Georgetown, Texas while living there. Survivors include : Husband - Levan P. \"Van\" Plocher, Highland, IL Son - Lt. Cmdr. Sutherland, Virginia Beach, VA Father In-law & Mother In-law - Clarence F. & Marie A. (nee Poettker) Plocher, Highland, IL Sister In-law & Brother In-law - Donna M. (John) Gantner, Highland, IL Brother In-law - Kevin J. Plocher, Highland, IL Brother In-law & Sister In-law - Mark A. (Connie) Plocher, Highland, IL Brother In-law & Sister In-law - Timothy J. (Mary Kay) Plocher, Highland, IL Sister In-law - Geri A. Plocher, Highland, IL Sister In-law & Brother In-law - Mary L. (Michael) Carroll, Highland, IL Numerous Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by : Father - Jess D. Hill died 01/18/1984 Mother - Ellen W. Hill nee Devries died 10/20/1990.
