Bernice J. Loos

Bernice Josephine (Bast) Loos, age 98, of Highland, IL., died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born September 1, 1911, in Marine, IL., the daughter of Michael and Ida (Feldmeier) Bast. On November 27, 1927, she married Wilbur W. Loos who passed away October 10, 1988. Mrs. Loos was born in Pin Oak Township, Madison County, Illinois on the family farm. She grew up on the farm and attended Loos Country School in Pin Oak township. She was the eldest of the three Bast children. She and her husband farmed until 1946 when they moved into Marine, IL. Bernice was a housewife and mother, as well as an employee of the Marine Garment Company from 1950 until 1955. In 1955, she became manager and head cook for the Marine Grade School cafeteria. She retired in 1973. After her retirement, she enjoyed life with several trips and vacations. She loved her house flowers and her flower garden, as well as the outdoors. She was an avid quilter. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended church regularly at the Marine United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Camp #2255 from 1935 until it was dissolved in 1996. She served as Camp Oracle from 1984 to 1996. She was a life-long member of the Women\'s Guild of the church and a member of the Marine Senior Citizens. Mrs. Loos was a cancer survivor and a great supporter for the cure of the disease. (Sherri) Loos of Troy, Ill., G-Grandchild-Drew Loos of Marine, Ill., G-Grandchild-Brett Loos of Marine, Ill., G-Grandchild-Justin Loos of Troy, Ill., G-Grandchild-Kyle Loos of Troy, Ill., Son-In-Law-Roy G. (Golda) Gross of Marine, Ill. She was preceeded in death by Father-Michael Bast, Husband-Wilbur W. Loos, died 10/10/1988, Mother-Ida Feldmeier, Brother-Mr. Wilbur L. \"Mike\" Bast, died 4/25/2000, Daughter-Darlene L. Gross nee Loos, died 9/06/1988, Son-Ronald W. Loos, died 4/22/2002, Brother-Delmar Bast, died 12/8/2008 Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, Ill. .
