Bernadette C. Sparlin

Bernadette C. Sparlin, age 79 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, IL. She was born on Saturday, January 12, 1935, in Highland, IL, the daughter of John H., Sr. and Rose M. (nee Fehkler) Wellen. On Monday, April 02, 1956, she married Gerald W. Sparlin who survives. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL, and a former member of St. Anne Alter Society. Bernadette was born at Highland and grew up on a farm Northeast of town. She attended Pierron and then St. Paul Schools. She had worked at Highland Supply and Basler Electric prior to her marriage. She stayed at home to rear her children. She helped her husband at Helvetia Sharpshooters Society Park. As a part of her faith, she visited the sick, shut-ins and nursing home members of the St. Paul congregation and provided communion to them. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Father Scott A. Snider, Parochial Vicar, St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL, officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice of Belleville or Masses.
