Andrew J. Schrage

Andrew J. Schrage, age 89 of Highland, IL, died Monday, February 08, 2016, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Highland, IL. He was born on Sunday, January 09, 1927, in Saint Rose, IL, the son of Anton and Frances (nee Middeke) Schrage. On Tuesday, May 04, 1954, he married Florence T. "Flo" Schrage (nee Korte) who survives. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church; Lee Iten Post #439, American Legion - Highland; Knights of Columbus #1580 Highland; former member of St. Rose School Board; Clinton County Board; St. Rose Men's Sodality; and American Legion Post #252 - Breese, IL. Andrew was born and grew up in St. Rose, IL. He attended St. Rose grade school and graduated from Aviston High School. He worked at the Alton Box Board before entering the US Army and after his honorable discharge. He served with the US Army with active duty during the Korean War. He later purchased his father's farm, NW of St. Rose and farmed for over 30 years. He lived on the farm from 1955 to 1991 when he and his wife moved to Highland. He worked for the US Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier for 20 years. He volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland and was recognized with 2000 volunteer hours. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 12, 2016, and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Father Pat G. Jakel, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Health Care Center.
