Alvira "Vera" H. Kunz

Alvira H. "Vera" Kunz, age 94 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born January 25, 1922, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (nee Imhof) Stimpel. In 1943 she married Nolen Kannawurg. He passed away in 1971. On March 04, 1972, she married Fremond E. Kunz at Highland, IL. He passed away on Dec. 23, 2012. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also an Honorary member of Woman's Guild at EvUCC Church; St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary - Highland. Alvira was born at St. Louis; grew up in South St. Louis. She graduated from Normandy High School in 1940. She worked as a biller at Doris Dodson Garment Factory for 5 years. She worked for Dr. Lincoln Hirst as a receptionist. She moved to Highland in 1972. She later worked at Vi's Dress Shop and Glik's at Northtown. Mrs. Kunz enjoyed visiting with people and volunteering at St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed "medical work". Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill officiating. Private interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary; Evangelical United Church of Christ; Hospice of Southern Illinois.
