Verna M. Zobrist

Verna M. Zobrist, age 78 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, November 02, 2013, at her residence in Highland, IL. She was born November 07, 1934, in Breese, IL, the daughter of Robert "Bud" and Alvina (nee Heldorfer) Von Alst. On June 03, 1967, she married Robert L Zobrist who survives. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Greenville, IL and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (former officer). She was born at home on Beaver Prairie, near Frogtown, rural Clinton County, IL. She worked 25 years at Marine Garment Company in Highland and Marine, working as a Floor Lady until it closed in 1986. In 1986, she opened the Craft Palace on the square at Highland. She ran the store and taught Tole painting and basket weaving for many years. From 1986 to 2009 she taught basket weaving for Lewis and Clark College, Godfrey, IL. She volunteered at Highland Health Care and later the Food Pantry (HASCM). Her main hobbies were crafts and volunteering at the food pantry. She enjoyed riding her 500 cc Honda motorcycle on trips with her husband to Colorado, Texas, West Virginia, Canada, Blue Ridge Park Way, Grand Canyon and Mt Rushmore. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, November 04, 2013, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, November 05, 2013, at Central Christian Church in Greenville, IL. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 05, 2013, at Central Christian Church, 205 South Prairie Street, in Greenville, IL 62246, with Rev. Tom Plog, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Greenville, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to HACSM (Food Panty) or Central Christian Church.
