Valentine C. "Val" Buchmiller

Valentine C. "Val" Buchmiller, age 77 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born on Friday, August 14, 1942, in Highland, IL, the son of Roy and Eleanor (nee Weidner) Buchmiller. On Saturday, May 13, 1967, he married Theresa Marie Buchmiller, nee Schumacher at St. Rose Catholic Church, St. Rose, Illinois, who survives. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL. He was also a member of American Legion Lee Iten Post #439, Highland, IL, and Perpetual Adoration at St. Joseph's Hospital. Val was raised in Pierron, IL. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1960 and served with the U.S. Air Force (5 years) with duty in Spain. He worked at Laclede Steel (17 years); Commerce Pipe (7 years); AT Com (U.S. Army for 10 years); and retired from Scott Air Force Base (10 years). He was a stain glass craftsman with making windows, stepping stones and sun catchers. Val was very active with American Legion and their military honors groups. He enjoyed time at Louis Latzer Library, wood working, making furniture and Christmas decorations. He was a very gifted craftsman. Spending time with his grandchildren was his most enjoyed time.
