Peggy R. Malina

Peggy Ruth Malina, age 69 of Highland, IL, died Monday, November 10, 2014, at her residence in Highland, IL. She was born on Thursday, September 13, 1945, in Mounds, IL, the daughter of Charles and Ruby (nee Littell) Wehrenberg. On May 27, 1967, she married James S. Malina, who passed away on November 30, 1997. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, Women's Guild of the church; the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, JOY Singers of Highland, and a former member of St. John United Church of Christ in Trenton. Mrs. Malina was born at Mounds, IL, and grew up there. In 1963, she graduated from Mounds Township High School. She graduated from McKendree College in May of 1967 and later attended SIU-E. She began teaching in August of 1967 at Grantfork, IL, as a 3rd grade teacher and taught 4th and 5th grade from 1977 to 2001 at Highland Elementary School. She retired from teaching June 5, 2001. She loved to travel and was "gone more than she was at home", traveling to Alaska, New York, and all over the USA. She enjoyed visiting with her family and trips to The Muny in St. Louis. She sang in her church choir and volunteered for Highland Area Christian Service Ministries. She lived in Trenton, IL, until moving to Highland in 2005. Survivors include: Son - James S. Collins, Saint Louis, MO Sister - Charlotte (Significant Other: Bobby Miller) Palmer, Villa Ridge, IL Sister - Mary Moss, Sainte Genevieve, MO Sister - Barbara (Jerry) Lindsey, Portageville, MO Brother - Richard (Agnes) Wehrenberg, Villa Ridge, IL She was preceded in death by: Father - Charles Wehrenberg Mother - Ruby Wehrenberg, nee Littell Husband - James S. Malina (died 11/30/1997) Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Friday, November 14, 2014, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 14, 2014, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Senior Pastor, Highland, IL officiating. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery in New Baden, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Area Christian Service Ministries (Highland Food Pantry).
