Paul T. Potthast

Paul T. Potthast, age 72 of Highland, IL, died Monday, October 12, 2015, at his residence in Highland, IL. He was born on Wednesday, March 31, 1943, in Highland, IL, the son of Raymond and Emma (nee Lunitz) Potthast. On Saturday, November 7, 1964, he married Karen S. Potthast, nee Hug who survives. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL and the American Legion Lee Iten Post #439 of Highland, IL. Mr. Potthast was born in Highland and grew up in Grantfork, IL. He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1961. He enlisted into the US Air Force from 1961 to 1965 and was awarded the Courteous Air Policeman Award in 1964. He then worked for Neubauer Meat Market till 1977 as a meat cutter. In 1977, he started Potthast Cabinet Shop, specializing in artistic furniture and custom cabinetry. He owned and operated the shop until 2013 and retired because of health issues. He enjoyed watching sports and car racing, playing cards, and loved training his pet dogs. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. Fr. Paul Kala, Pastor, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Greenville, IL, celebrant; Rev. Fr. David L. Peters, Retired Pastor, concelebrant. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul School Educational Foundation, Friends of St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, Heartland Hospice, or a Charity of Donor's Choice.
