Minnie M. Baer

Minnie M. Baer, age 96 of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, July 02, 2019, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born on Saturday, February 17, 1923, in Alhambra, IL, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (nee Branger) Wirtz. On Tuesday, October 26, 1943, she married Alphonse J. Baer at St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL, who passed away on Saturday, August 01, 1981. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL. Minnie was born Feb. 17, 1923 to Fred Wirtz and Anna A. (nee Branger) Wirtz. She married Alphonse J. Baer on Oct. 26, 1943. While her husband was serving in the US Army, she went to California to work in an airplane factory ("Rosie the Riveter"). She then returned to Highland after her husband came home. She worked at the Shoe Factory, Highland Box Board, then St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, until she retired after 40 years. Then she was called to work at The Highland Home and after two years she was the Assistant Supervisor. She worked there for 10 years and retired from there at the age of 82 years old. She loved to crochet and knit. She went to Texas with her cousin, Irene Iberg, for a few years. She did this while she worked at the hospital and before she worked at the Highland Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 06, 2019, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Rev. Fr. Pat Jakel, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Home.
