Ewald E. Holzinger

Ewald E. Holzinger, age 88 of Highland, IL, died Monday, November 07, 2016, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1928, in Highland, IL, the son of Edgar and Rose (nee Koch) Holzinger. On June 15, 1957, he married Leola A. Quitmeyer at Trenton, IL. She survives in Highland, IL. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Highland VFW Post 5694; Lee Iten American Legion Post 439 - Highland; Highland Knights of Columbus #1580; . Ewald was born in Highland, IL and graduated from St. Paul High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 to 1953 during the Korean War. After his military service, he worked as a carpenter in the Chicago area. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail clerk on the railroad. He continued working for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years. During his retirement years, he worked for Dow Jones, EF Truck Service, Basler Electric Company, Travel One, and Jim's Formal Wear. Ewald was very active with the VFW, where he was in charge of Military Honors for nine years. He enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events, American Legion Baseball, and was an avid Cardinal's fan. His hobbies included traveling, deer hunting, and collecting baseball cards, stamps and model trains. Survivors include: Wife - Leola A. Holzinger nee Quitmeyer, Highland, IL Daughter - Patricia A. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. Father Pat G. Jakel, officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland VFW; American Parkinsons Disease Assoc.; St. Paul School Educational Foundation.
