Edna J. Zobrist

Edna J. Zobrist, age 81 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Eden Village Retirement Center in Glen Carbon, IL. She was born January 10, 1936, in Collinsville, IL, the daughter of Melvin and Arita (nee DePaoli) Long. On April 21, 1956, she married Harlan R. "Arkie" Zobrist at St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland, IL. He passed away on December 14, 1990. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of VFW Aux. Post 5694 Highland; St. Anne Altar Society; Woodmen of the World Camp#105-Highland. Edna was born in Collinsville and grew up in Highland, IL. She was a Highland High School graduate in 1953. She started Nursing Training at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton, graduating in 1956. She moved to Virginia when her husband was in the US Navy. They returned to Highland and she worked in St. Joseph Hospital as the ER Supervisor and ICU Nurse. She helped start the Miles Anderson Nursing Home. In retirement she did private duty nursing and later worked for FIRST STUDENT as a bus monitor. She had been a Girls Softball Coach in Khoury League, and a member of a bowling league. She loved to read, played Bingo and was in a Pinochle Card Club. She absolutely loved music and helped her husband play Santa Claus every holiday. Survivors include : Daughter - Kathleen A. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Saint Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL., with Rev. Father Pat G. Jakel officiating. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association or To The Family.
