Dorothy A. Bellm

Dorothy Ann (Grimmer) Bellm, age 88, of Highland, IL., died Thursday, November 2, 2006, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. She was born September 5, 1918, in Highland, IL., the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Widmer) Grimmer. On November 22, 1947, she married Ralph E. Bellm , who survives. Dorothy was born and grew up in Highland. She graduated St. Paul High School, Highland in 1936. She graduated from St. John\'s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL, and worked surgical and OB units at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland. From 1959 to June 1982 was school nurse for Highland Community School #5. She had enjoyed twenty plus years of retirement. She was the first nurse to receive the IL State Board of Education Award for Educational Excellence in 1982. She also volunteered administring TB, Polio vaccines and at blood drives. She taught first aid at Highland Police and Fire Departments. She was a world traveler, licensed airplane pilot, 4-H Leader and Girl Scout Volunteer. She was an avid painter with works in pastels and iols. She had won awards for her paintings and they were displayed at area shows and hung in local businesses. For a number of years thirty or more painters would gather at her home for Thanksgiving Dinner. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland, IL. She was also a member of Daughters of Isabella #237, St. Louis Art Guild Singing Group Sweet Adelines, American Legion Aux. Post #439, Highland Art Council, IL Nurses Association. Survivors include Husband-Ralph E. Bellm of Highland, Ill., Son-William J. (Eveline) Bellm of San Lorenzo, Calif., Daughter-Mary Jane (Fred) Waxler of Novato, Calif., Granddaughter-Shannon M. (Paul) Pattillo of Citrus Heights, Calif., Gr Grandchild-Nicholas M. Pattillo of Citrus Heights, Calif., Gr-Grandchild-Mason A. Pattillo of Citrus Heights, Calif., Sister-Ruth (Walter \"Roy\") Schoolfield of Highland, Ill. She was preceded in death by Father-Frank P. Grimmer, Mother-Margaret A Grimmer, nee widmer, Brother-Edward Grimmer, Sister-Irma Compton Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill.
