Arnold J. Schroeder

Arnold J. Schroeder, age 96 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Aviston Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL. He was born on Thursday, August 14, 1919, in Bartelso, IL, the son of John and Mary (nee Huene) Schroeder. He married Henrietta J. Schroeder nee Wilken who passed away on Friday, October 25, 2002. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL; American Legion Post # 321-New Baden, IL; former member of St. George Catholic Chruch, New Baden, IL. Arnold was born at Bartelso, IL; he grew up there and worked on the family farm. He served with the US Army, during WWII, from June 8, 1942 to January 13, 1946, as a Machine Gunner in the Philippines and Asiatic Pacific Theater, he received two Bronze Stars. After the service he return to the Metro East and worked as a painter at Scott Air Force Base, IL; he later retired in the 1980's. He and his wife moved to Denver, Colorado in the late 1990's. After his wife died he returned to Highland. He was a choir member at St. George Catholic Church, New Baden, IL. He enjoyed yard work and was a gardener. Survivors include: Step Daughter - Joan (Joe) Griesbaum-Guzzo, Moline, IL Niece & Caregiver - Jill M. (Jeff) Schwend, Highland, IL Step Grandchildren - Five Step Great Grandchildren - Numerous Step Great Great Grandchildren - Several. He was preceded in death by: Father - John Schroeder Mother - Mary (Huene) Schroeder Wife - Henrietta J. Schroeder (nee Wilken) (died 10/25/2002) Brother - Raymond L. Schroeder Brother - Lawrence F. Schroeder Brother - Louis H. Schroeder Brother - Virgil H. Schroeder Sister - Elizabeth Kannall Brother - Emil Schroeder Brother - John Schroeder Brother - Bart Schroeder Brother - Richard G. Schroeder (Died 5/6/1982) Sister - Monica Schroeder. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Graveside Service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden, IL., with Fr. Gene Neff, Pastor, St. George Catholic Church, New Baden, IL, officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul School Education Foundation.
