Alvin P. Steiner

Alvin P. Steiner, age 84 of Pocahontas, IL, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO. He was born on Tuesday, May 31, 1932, in Pocahontas, IL, the son of Leo A. and Aline A. (nee Niggli) Steiner. On Tuesday, June 05, 1956, he married Jo-Ann M. (nee Suess) Steiner at Grantfork United Church of Christ, who survives. He was a member of Grantfork United Church of Christ. He was also a member of VFW Highland Post 5694 (VFW Commander 1980-81; VFW Quartermaster 30 years; VFW Member 60 years), Lee Iten Post #439, American Legion, Highland, IL, Grantfork United Church of Christ Council 4 years (President of the Council 3 years; Build Parsonage), Helvetia Sharpshooters Society, Saline Township 40 years (Trustee; Auditor; Supervisor), President of PTO for Grantfork Center Schools, Proud member of Illi-Dell and Fighting Illini Dad and Grand-Dads Club. Alvin was born on the family farm, east of Grantfork, IL. He lived all of his 84 years on Steiner ground. He attended Fairview Country School. He served with the U.S. Army in France as a Military Policeman. He returned to the family farm and work on the dairy farm with his father. He retired from dairying in 1978. He then raised grain on the farm until early 2000's. He was a school bus driver for 18 years. He enjoyed playing cards (Jass every Tuesday for years). He enjoyed his family, traveling with his family and siblings. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan from when they were the St. Louis Browns. He never missed a school event for sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed and had a large collection of Eagles. Survivors include: Wife - Jo-Ann M. Steiner, nee Suess, Pocahontas, IL Son - Wayne P. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Grantfork United Church of Christ in Grantfork, IL., with Rev. Tim A. Darmour-Paul, officiating.
