William D. Wernle
William Dale Wernle, age 77, of Highland, IL., died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO.
He was born April 7, 1932, in Greenville, IL., the son of Edwin and Erma (Smith) Wernle.
On November 20, 1954, he married Melba P. Wernle nee Farley , who survives.
He was a member of First Christian Church-Greenville, IL.
He was also a member of Teamsters Local #600 St. Louis;
VFW Post 5694 Highland (Lifetime Member);
Greenville American Legion (Lifetime Member);
Highland Country Club.
William was born in Greenville and grew up there. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1953, with duty aboard the USS Henrioc.
After the war he owned a tavern in Bettendorf, IA. He later drove a truck over the road for 35 years. Then worked for Tri Ford in Highland for 15 years.
William enjoyed playing golf, bingo, playing cards, watching his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL., with Rev. R. Darryl Bolen, Pastor of First Christian Church Greenville, IL officiating.
Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
